At Hurstmere, we pride ourselves in our community and charity contributions. Here are a few examples of previous charitable endeavours by our staff and students.
Shelter UK
At the recent Christmas Concert, Cucina, the Hurstmere restaurant, donated a range of festive cakes which were sold during the interval.
A grand total of £296.43 was raised.
Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice
The school Library has a collection box for Bexley & Greenwich Hospice where the boys can put loose change. This last academic year we collected £92.00! The school Library also donates its old and unwanted books to schools in the poorer regions of Zambia and India.
Red Nose Day 2017
During the week of March 20th – March 24th students took part in events to support and raise awareness for Red Nose Day 2017. Students took part in a joke writing competition, watched comedy during lunch times and took part in a mile run during their PE lessons. Students raised a total of £240 for Comic Relief which supports over 2000 charities. These charities range from local projects to international foundations
First Give Programme
Year 7 took part in the First Give Programme which accumulates in a public speaking event and the winning team are awarded £1,000 to go to their chosen charity.
Poppy Appeal
Once again, poppies were available to students and staff and a pleasing amount of money was donated for the British Legion.
Zambia
The students and staff visiting Zambia in 2018 undertook a number of fundraising events including a non-school uniform day, a quiz night, a Year 7 disco and bag packing at a local supermarket. All monies went towards the Zambia project.
School Aid
The Maths and Science Departments donated 250 education books to School Aid. These books will help provide underprivileged children in some of the most challenging educational environments in the world.
Staff Events
A cake sale was organised by staff for staff in aid of MacMillian Cancer Support and some of the gentlemen members of staff enthusiastically embraced Movember to raise money for the Movember Foundation.
