Year 7 Induction

The transfer from primary to secondary school is a big step for any child. At Hurstmere School, we recognise the importance of creating a firm foundation from the start. We have close links with all local primary schools, and our comprehensive transition and induction programme is designed to ensure a smooth start to secondary education.

We have a team of specialist teachers and support staff who understand the needs of each child and strengthen the transition process. The Head of Year role is a crucial one in this process; they ensure all students succeed to their maximum potential, enjoy their schooling and become active members of the school community.

The transition from primary school to secondary school is a key issue for Year 7 students as it is a significant moment in a young person’s education.  Many students join Year 7 with excitement and anticipation. However, it is appreciated that there those who may have some anxieties and concerns.

It is very important that students are happy, enthused and ready to make a positive start at Hurstmere.  At times, however, students will need extra support, and we are proud of our vast support network available to all Year 7 students; in addition to the Head of Year, we have experienced Form Tutors, peer mentors and specialist support staff all working as a team to help the new arrivals settle into their unfamiliar surroundings quickly.

We are committed to ensuring that our students' time at Hurstmere School is happy, fulfilling and successful. Developing and maintaining a close working relationship with parents and carers is a vital part of the school's philosophy. Parents are genuine partners in their son's learning and are always welcome visitors to our school.  We want parents to take an active interest in all aspects of their son's education.

Here's an example of one of the many ways we support transition into our school community; filmed entirely by our Year 8 Media Team with end2end TV.
